Mid-19th century. A framed and glazed hand-coloured wood engraving of the site of the Crystal Palace in 1852. The framed measures approx 28.5 × 25cm, the mount's aperture is 15 × 11.5cm. It is in a gilt frame, with burgundy mount.
An attractive hand-coloured engraving of the site of the Crystal Palace in 1852. The scene is a rural view in south London (Sydenham Ridge), where Joseph Paxton located the place where the palace will be marvelled upon for many miles. The Palace was taken from it's 1851 in Hyde Park, and re-erected in Crystal Palace, in an area of 200 acres.
Condition
Very good condition, with a couple of small chips to the inner moulding of the frame.
