First edition. Three volumes (complete), hardback, bound in brown cloth titled in gilt Gothic to spine and blindstamped to boards. Each 27 × 17.5cm, Vol 1: 8pp, [5], xvi, 771pp, 8pp ads. Volume 2: viii, 758pp, 8pp ads. Volume 3: viii, lxxix, 790pp, plate index, 8pp ads. Each volume printed in double columns.
A comprehensive collection of Bunyan's works, volumes 1 and 2 are "Experimental, Doctrinal and Practical" and contains his religious writings, including his Prison Meditations, A Treatise on the Fear of God, Of the Resurrection of the Dead, and A Defence of the Doctrine of Justification etc. Volume three has his "Allegorical, Figurative and Symbolical" writings which include The Pilgrims Progress, and The Holy City, the memoir of Bunyan, and the index. Illustrated with fine engravings.
Condition
This set is in good condition for age. There is bumping to the board's edges and light scattered foxing throughout but all three volumes remain in strong readable condition, and all plates are present. Some ages uncut (ie unopened), inner binding secure. A heavy set at over 5kg.
