This is a typed letter from Windsor Castle sent at the request of Queen Victoria in February 1898, and signed by a courtier, Frederick Ponsonby, in his capacity of Assistant Private Secretary, a position he held from 1897 to 1901. it was sent to Captain the Marquis Testaferrata Olivier.
The letter reads "Dear Sir, I am desired by The Queen to send you a portrait of Her Majesty as a souvenir of the Diamond Jubilee. It is from a photograph of The Queen taken in the dress worn by Her Majesty on the 22nd of June last. Yours very truly, F[rederick] Ponsonby". Alas, the portrait is no longer with the letter.
Condition
The letter is in good condition, some sunning to the edges and rear but remaining very readable.
