Printing Details
This is a card page from an album, with a large albumen print on either side. The card measures 35 × 26.5, and albumen prints are 26.5 × 21cm. Believed to date to the late 1890s.
On one side is a superb photographic study of a Victorian gentleman in a hacking jacket, riding boots and a tweed cap, holding the reins of a black horse. It's a strangely informal shot as the chap seems to be communing with the horse. On the reverse is an Army Officer in white uniform with a white horse, this image has "Lop Ear & Brigade Major Graham Thompson, RE" written in pencil to the lower left corner.
Condition
The card has quite heavy spotted foxing and marking, and is a little wavy, but the photographs remain in good condition and would look superb framed. The first photograph appears a little bleached in the background but this may be a deliberate effect to concentrate on the man and horse.
