The autobiography of Charles Haill (1842–1929) who spent his life on the tugs of the River Thames as a pilot. The book, which runs to about 1891, is a series of memories, naming the ships he served on and the incidents he remembers, and some of his own poetry. A quick flick through sees mention of wrecks and groundings including Margate Sands, the Princess Alice, the gales of October 1881, and list of the boats he commanded between 1860 and 1891.
Condition
A good reading copy. The cloth binding is stained to the rear board, and also a bit dulled. The contents are in strong readable condition, a little tanned but securely bound.
