The first work of Swinburne's that bought him recognition. It is a tragedy based on the Greek legend of Atalanta and the Calydonian boar (a ferocious boar sent to ravage the lands of Oeneus, King of Calydon. Atalanta (the daughter of Iasus [or Zeus] and Clymene, was the first to wound the boar before Meleager killed it. Swinburne's work is chiefly remembered for the choruses, particularly 'Hymn to Artemis'.
Condition
Fair condition but remaining in a strong readable state. There is a slight lean to the spine and the cloth is marked with a small splodge to the upper board to the joint, and the bottom half of the rear board is darkened (probably an old water stain). The contents are good, some small amount of movement in the binding, and some tanning to the pages but essentially sound.
