Lieut.-Comdr Douglas Hamilton served in the Royal Navy throughout he Great War, including being in charge of landing boats at Sulva Bay before joining the submarine service in 1917. He continued to sail after the war, and with his wife Mary, sailed in the track of Erskine Childers' Dulcibella (Riddle of the Sands) inside the German Frisian Islands. That trip was the foundation of this novel in which a British couple in their yacht (Seagull) investigate German naval might in the years before the Second World War.
Condition
The book itself is in good condition, with some light spotted foxing and a previous owner's name to the ffep. The dustwrapper suffers loss to the edges and spine ends, most significantly to the rear panel where the top fifth is missing but this is now within a protective sleeve.
Books are currently zero-rated for duty (as of April 2026), so the price shown is the price you pay.
