A late Victorian novel set in the Lyth Valley in the Lake District. It explores the tragic conflict between love and religious belief. The story centres on the relationship between Laura Fountain, a young woman raised by her atheist father, and Alan Helbeck, a devout and ascetic Roman Catholic.
Condition
Very good condition for age. There is one or two small smudges and marks to the cloth, and a small marginal tear (not affecting text) to the first 14 pages but otherwise in strong readable condition. Previous owner's name to the ffep.
