The memoirs of Edward Grey, 1st Viscount Grey of Fallodon, the British statesman and driving force behind foreign policy in the years running up to and at the start of the Great War. He achieved many things, including renewing the Anglo-Japanese Alliance in 1911, he worked towards a policy of defence for France in the face of German aggression, and helped lead Britain into War in 1914 (perhaps his best known remark is "The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our life-time", a phrase that was first published in these books). Illustrated with portrait photographs.
Condition
A good set. There is some noticeable rubbing and bumping to the boards' edges at the corners and some damage to the spine ends. Light tanning and spotting to the prelims, and some offsetting from the tissue guarded frontispiece to the title pages. The inner binding is sound and the books remains in strong readable condition. Volume two has some loose relevant newspaper clippings inserted.
