French novelist Marguerite Audoux's story is set rural France in the early years of the twentieth century. The heroine, Marie-Claire, was born into poverty but determines to make a better life for her and her family. This edition illustrated by French artist Paul-Emile Colin with 21 original woodcuts. This title was published in the "Le Livre de Demain" series and would have been bound in yellow paper covers, this one has been rebound in red cloth.

Condition

Good condition, it is in strong readable condition, with some sunning to the covers and light age-toning to the pages. Previous owner's name to ffep.
