This copy as been signed and dedicated by Ida Cook (who also adds Tito's best wishes) directly to the ffep. Ida Cook, better known as the romantic novelist Mary Burchell, and her sister, Louise, were frequent travellers to Germany in the 1930s being great fans of opera. They used these trips to help 29 Jewish people to escape Nazi Germany. It was a remarkable and dangerous feat and in 1965 they were honoured as Righteous Among the Nations (an honorific used by the State of Israel to describe non-Jews who risked their lives during the Holocaust).
Italian baritone Tito Gobbi here draws upon his experiences as interpreter, producer and teacher to analyse sixteen Italian operas, discussing each one's lace in history, the importance of every character, the librettos and scores. operas including are Don Giovanni, Figaro, William Tell, Rigoletto, I Pagliacci, Tosca etc

There is light bumping to the wrapper and board's edges but otherwise this copy is in very good condition.
