"In this volume the author offers to the public the results of over six years' investigation and study of the rock-paintings in the Argentine province of Cordoba. The scope of the book can be judged from the following summary of the contents: An Introduction, composing a brief account of the archaeological region and of its extinct native inhabitants; Parts I to III are detailed descriptions of the various groups of rock-paintings and their surroundings; Part IV is a classification of the figures, nearly 900 in number, composing the groups of paintings (representations of human beings, mammals, birds, reptiles, insects etc); Part V is the style and technique with a comparison of the paintings with a large number of others in all parts of the world; Part VI is a consideration of the probable significance of the rock paintings. Their age and authorship and a conclusion. This is followed by an appendix of references to material used for purposes of comparison and a list of authors consulted." The text is illustrated throughout, and there are a further 44 plates following the text, both photographic and colour prints of the paintings.

Condition

The book is in very good condition, with clean pages and secure binding, and with all plates present. The dustwrapper is quite heavily worn with fading to the edges and two tears to the fold—one to the rear joint (about 7cm up from the base) and another of 15cm to the rear fold at the fore-edge. There is also creasing to the back panel. However, it remains a scarce book, and particularly so in the original dustwrapper.
