First edition. Hardback in dustwrapper. 22 × 14cm, 126pp.
Marian Slingova tells here of her sudden and inexplicable arrest in Czechoslovakia in the winter of 1951, the accusations of treachery against her husband (a high party official), the farce of the Slánský and Šling trials and of two and half years imprisonment. After her husband's execution came release and exile to the remote countryside, where she and her sons lived under an assumed name, and a campaign to clear Otto Šling's name. The story merges with the public events of the time and the last chapter is, literally, broken off by the appearance of Russian tanks.
