An early German printing of Thomas Mann's 1901 classic which sees the wealthy Buddenbrook family challenged as the tides of modernity and change sweep through Europe, and their once-stable world begins to crumble, along with the tenets on which the Buddenbrooks built their success. Spanning four generations, this semi-autobiographical family epic records the transition of genteel Germanic stability to a very modern uncertainty.
Condition
Poor condition. Whilst the book remains in fair readable condition, there is heavy fraying to the rear joint, and lighter fraying to the front joint. The corners are rubbed and the spine a little creased. Neat previous owner's name to title page and tidy, small inscription to ffep. Occasional inoffensive marginal annotation. Inner binding secure.
