A Great War novel, seen through the eyes of an eight-man American infantry unit. James B. Wharton’s 'Squad' is celebrated for its unflinching, realistic detail, drawing directly from the author’s harrowing experiences with the 11th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division.
Published in 1928, the inaugural year of the Coward-McCann publishing house, this first US edition is a cornerstone of American war literature. Unlike the romanticized accounts of the era, Wharton provides a visceral look at the 'Front,' capturing the camaraderie and chaos of the American 'Doughboys.
