Signed by artist Robert Montgomery in blue ink to the half-title. Robert Montgomery (b.1972) is a Scottish conceptual artist and poet renowned for bringing poetic text directly into public spaces through large-scale light installations, billboard interventions, and fire poems.

This book on American installation artist Robert Irwin was produced to accompany the major retrospective exhibition organized by MOCA and held from June 20 to August 15, 1993, before touring to other major institutions. It provides a comprehensive overview of Irwin's evolution from his early Abstract Expressionist paintings of the 1950s through his iconic 1960s dot paintings and aluminum/glass disc installations, culminating in his site-conditioned, light-and-space environmental installations.

Containing essays by Irwin himself, Sally Yard, John Hallmark Neff, Jeremy Gilbert-Rolfe, Klaus Kertess, Arthur C Danto, and Irwin biographer Lawrence Weschler.
