Charles Dodgson was a frequent guest at Hatfield House, the historic seat of Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury (who served three terms as Prime Minister and was Chancellor of Oxford University). Dodgson became a favorite family visitor and storytelling companion to the Cecil children, taking numerous photographs of the family and grounds.
