This copy was Jungian analyst and author Irene de Castillejo's own copy, with her signature to the front cover. Born in 1885, she married Spanish jurist and professor Jose Castillejo but had to flee Madrid at the start of the Spanish Civil War. In 1945, after living in London, she studied Jungian psychology in Zurich working with Carl Gustav Jung, Emma Jung and Toni Wolff, then returning to London to found a psychotherapy practice specialising in the role of women in the world of today. She is perhaps best known for her book 'Knowing Woman: A Feminine Psychology', published posthumously in 1973.
In Guild Lecture No. 85, C.G. Jung’s close associate and senior Zurich lecturer Barbara Hannah delivers a lucid examination of the primary stage of individuation: the confrontation between the conscious Ego and the unadapted, rejected contents of the Shadow. Hannah demonstrates how the repression of shadow traits leads to destructive personal and collective projections, while explaining why true psychological maturity demands wholeness rather than moral perfection. Drawing directly on Jungian clinical practice, she explores how integrating the shadow restores lost instinctual vitality to the ego, offering a vital foundational text on the dynamics of the unconscious for students of depth psychology, pastoral counselling, and analytical theory.
Condition
Good, there is tanning to the covers and the staples are starting to rust. Irene de Castillejo has made some pencil markings to the margins but it remains in strong readable condition.
