This copy was Jungian analyst and author Irene de Castillejo's own copy, with her signature to the front cover. Born in 1885, she married Spanish jurist and professor Jose Castillejo but had to flee Madrid at the start of the Spanish Civil War. In 1945, after living in London, she studied Jungian psychology in Zurich working with Carl Gustav Jung, Emma Jung and Toni Wolff, then returning to London to found a psychotherapy practice specialising in the role of women in the world of today. She is perhaps best known for her book 'Knowing Woman: A Feminine Psychology', published posthumously in 1973.
In Guild Lecture No. 80, Dr. Hans J. Bach delivers one of the earliest British appraisals of C.G. Jung's newly formulated theory of synchronicity—the acausal connecting principle. Bach provides a clear psychological and philosophical synthesis of how inner psychic states meaningfully coincide with outer physical events without direct causal links. Examining the role of constellated archetypes during emotional and existential crises, Bach demonstrates how synchronicity challenges purely reductionist, mechanistic science while offering a profound framework for understanding providence, meaningful coincidence, and the objective reality of the psyche in pastoral and therapeutic practice.
