A wonderful selection of comic verse from the fifteenth century through to the twentieth, with poets including Hilaire Belloc, E C Bentley, Byron, C S Calverley, Lewis Carroll, G K Chesterton, Edward Lear, Ronald Knox, and many more, and of course, limericks.
The compiler was a polymath, being a poet, writer, scientist, mathematician, critic and broadcaster, and who made his living through teaching. He is perhaps best remembered for his editing of The Faber Book of Modern Verse, one of a number of anthologies he edited for a variety of publishers.
Condition
A good copy. The cloth binding is a little dull and bumped to the corners. Inner biding secure, pages tanned due to the wartime economy paper but remaining in good strong readable condition.
As of July 2026, books remain duty-free. The price of the book incurs no extra US import fees.
