Trapped Reality is the exhibition catalogue published by the Centre d'Art Santa Mònica in Barcelona for the 1997 group exhibition of the same name and features essays and contributions by Luk Lambrecht, Jon Thompson, Everlyn Nicodemus, Willy Thomas, and José Lebrero Stals.
The exhibition and book were part of a cultural exchange in Barcelona highlighting contemporary Flemish art and painting practices. The catalogue explores themes of perception, representation, and reality in contemporary painting—specifically how social, cultural, and political contexts shape visual imagery. For the exhibition itself, artist Richard Venlet collaborated with Lambrecht to design a custom "Space for Painting," where works by 19 Flemish artists (including Luc Tuymans, Karin Hanssen, Ronny Delrue, Walter Swennen, and Ann Veronica Janssens, among others) were displayed alphabetically in a continuous line.
