There is also a signed handwritten letter tipped in. The letter reads "26/1 87. A. Geffroy" which translates as "Jan 26, [18]87 My dear colleague, Would you and Madame Schefer be so kind as to accept the two volumes that will accompany this letter? I must go to the Bibliothèque Nationale [National Library] to give you the answer regarding the Marshal of the Diet (Landtmarschalk) in 1694. A volume by Carlson in which I might find it is missing from my collection here. It is a certain Florén you are also speaking of, is it not? I cannot find his entry in the Biographiskt Lexicon. What do you already know about him? A thousand respectful regards to Madame, and for you, a thousand heartfelt compliments. A. Geffroy"

This is a selection of Madame de Maintenon's letters. Françoise d'Aubigné, Marquise de Maintenon, was a French noblewoman who secretly married King Louis XIV. Although she was never considered queen of France, she was one of the King's closest advisers.
