A thriller from the creator of the Harry Tong crime novels. From the dustwrapper, "Anthony Cooper was a strange child, intelligent, yet morose and hostile to all who offered friendship, he lived with his grandmother. To his schoolteacher, Jean Masters, Anthony was a challenge and she was determined to help him, to break down his adamant hostility and to give him every opportunity in his school life. But why did he act so oddly? Was the disappearance of Adeline, his mother, to blame? And his father—was he dead or not? Troubled by these suspicions and alarmed by his sisters growing infatuation for the boy, Jean's brother began to ask questions. And the answers he received were of the most unexpected kind."
