First US edition. Hardback, bound in dark green cloth with gilt titling to spine and upper board. 19 × 12.5cm, 304pp.
Not signed but with an interesting bookplate for C A E Stanfield featuring a mulberry bush and Latin motto Nosce Te Ipsum (Know Thyself).
A guide to the pollination of plants, with sections on seedage, separation, layerage, cuttage, graftage, and pollination, with a lengthy alphabetical list of plants and how to successfully grow them. The author, Liberty Hyde Bailey, was an American horticulturist and reformer of rural life. He assumed the chair of Practical and Experimental Horticulture at Cornell University and was a co-founder of the American Society for Horticultural Science.
Condition
This copy is in very good condition for age. There is a little light wear to the green cloth and some light age-related toning to the ages but otherwise a very sound copy.
