For millions of people, Maria Callas was the focus of unparalleled fascination. She transformed herself from a fat, awkward girl into a woman of magnetic beauty and personality. Yet, even while the fairy tale transformation was taking place, the tragedy had begun to unfold: in her unresolvable conflict with her mother, her deeply emotional relationship with her voice, her terrible dependence on Onassis, her secret abortion, and the agony and humiliation of Onassis' marriage to Jackie Kennedy. And, underlying all these, a ceaseless struggle raged inside her between the legend and the woman, the image and reality, between Callas and Maria. This biography documents this struggle with previously unpublished material.
Condition
Both book and dustwrapper are in very good condition. The book has some light tanning to the pages' top edge and there is a little crinkling to the wrapper but it is otherwise a very sound copy.
