A good collection of Great War poetry by poets who saw active service between August 4th, 1914 and November 18th, 1918, and published in the middle of the Second World War or as Nichols puts it "The interest in this anthology lies not only in the high merit of the individual poems, but in the comparison, which will, naturally, be made between the impetus given to young poets and their work in the Great War, and the rise in this Greater War of the poets of the present generation." The book has a lengthy preface dialogue between the anthologist and a young English writer Julian Tennyson, who was to be killed in action in 1945. Included are Julian Grenfell, Charles Hamilton Sorley, William Noel Hodgson, Robert Graves, Edmund Blunden, Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen etc.
