First edition, first printing. Hardback, bound in the original decorative cloth, the upper board showing an angel (the Tea-Spirit from the book) in gilt looking over the book's characters. Page edges dyed blue, floral endpapers. 19 × 12.5cm, xii + 207pp.
Herman Merivale's whimsical fantasy novel set in the Kingdom of Tadt, where the villainous Binko and his band of Blues scheme to disrupt a joyous royal wedding and plunge the kingdom into chaos... The novel explores the themes of virtue, of good s evil, and of triumph over joy in a typically playful Victorian manner. The book is illustrated with pen and ink drawings by Edgar Giberne.
Condition
This copy is in very good condition for age. The spine is tanned and there is some light bumping to the corners but the inner binding is secure and the pages are clean bar some light blotchy foxing to the frontis and title page. The book is free from inscription.
