Hiram Bingham's illustrated account of his journey through South America, starting in Pernambuco and Bahia, ending up in Ayacucho and Lima. The book is illustrated with photographic plates (some double spread) and maps. Bingham was an American academic, explorer and politician, he publicized the existence of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu which he rediscovered with the guidance of local indigenous farmers.
Condition
Poor. A reference copy only. The binding is rubbed and bumped. The front hinge is cracked open and the rear hinge weak. Several plates are detached and the book is readable with gentle handling.
