First UK edition. Limited to 650, of which 600 are for sale, this being no 10 so presumably one of the author's presentation copies. Hardback in dustwrapper, the book quarter cloth with patterned paper covered boards. Top edge gilt. 24 × 15.5cm, 103pp

Illustrated with a previously unseen portrait of the author, this was a late title from Douglas and is a treatise on aphrodisiacs, life, youth and sexual love. He took aspects of esoteric, scientific and medicinal lore, and came up with this collection of erotic and esoteric poetic writings.

Condition

The book is in good condition, with some tanning to the page edges and some pulling to the binding at page one, but remaining in strong readable condition. The dustwrapper is fair only, with heavy tanning, closed tears to the edges and slight loss to the spine ends and corners. The wrapper is now within a protective sleeve.
