Printing Details

First edition. Limited edition of 300 copies, this being No 197. The ten engravings are housed in a leather portfolio which is itself in a card box. The portfolio measures 26 × 18.5cm. 10 loose mounted engravings, one page of limitation details. Text in Polish, English and French.

A delightful collection of wood-engravings of old Warsaw by Polish artist Eugeniusz Pichell (1905–1976), a master of the "white line" technique in wood engraving. The engravings are: 1. Nike of Warsaw, 2. Castle Square, 3. Piwna Street, 4. The Barbicane, 5. Waski Dunaj Street, 6. The Market Place, 7. The Roofs of the City, 8. the House "Under the Ship", 9. The Church of Our Lady, and 10. Royal Palast "Lazienki".

Condition

The leather portfolio and all ten plates are in excellent condition (though there is a little browning to the inside top edge of the folder). The box is scuffed and marked but has done a good job in keeping the plates and folder clean. A lovely set.
