First edition. Hardback, in partial dustwrapper. 21 × 16.5cm, 148pp.

This copy has been signed and dedicated by equestrian author R S Summerhays to the half-title page, "Jennifer Holt, with best love from R S Summerhays, 14 April 1941". Reginald Sherriff Summerhays had been one of the chief purchasing officers of horses during the Great War, and went on to publish many books about horses, including The Observer's Book of Horses and Ponies.

A collection of six "horsey" tales for children, including one that relates to a true incident in the harsh winter of 1939/40, and is illustrated with pencil sketches by Lionel Edwards.


A reading copy. The books is rather battered with a lean to the spine and spotted foxing throughout but remaining in strong readable condition. The dustwrapper is poor with significant loss.
