Volume 2 contains works and letters by the young Engels for the period 1838–1842. The volume includes Engels’ youthful poetry, his articles and reviews on various social and political topics, with his writings on Rheinische Zeitung, his pamphlets defending the progressive aspects of the Hegelian philosophy against Schelling and his essays in literary criticism. The way in which Engels’ world view was being formed during this period and the breadth of his interests – in science, literature, theatre, music and sport – is evident in the letters contained in this volume.
Condition
