Hand-coloured Map of Durham, c1840

This is an attractive hand-coloured map of the county of Durham, dating from c1840. The printed area measures 26 × 20cm and is mounted, the mount measuring approx 31 × 27cm, The map has been neatly taped to the mount at the sides.
The map was created by Thomas Moule, and the coastline and geographical features have been coloured. The are two fine engraved view to the left, one showing the city of Durham from the river and the other Raby Castle. The right hand features a Gothic style plaque with a reference to the wards and a lady holding an armorial crest.
The map is in very good condition, with just a little light tanning. The mount is a little marked to the edges with some light creasing.
