Printing Details

First edition, hardback. 25.5 × 18.5cm, 46pp.

This copy was given as a gift by Spanish artist Gregorio Prieto, who has inscribed the ffep. Prieto was born in Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real) in 1897. He trained at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts. In 1925 he obtained a scholarship to continue his studies in France and Belgium, where he came into contact with the artistic movements of the time. In 1928 he was awarded a grant to study in Rome; during this period he worked with Eduardo Chicharro and met artists such as De Chirico and Alberto Moravia. He returned to Spain in 1931, where he became associated with the members of the Generation of 1927, and particularly with Lorca and Alberti. He took part in international exhibitions and his reputation spread. In 1939 he moved to London where he struck up friendship with Luis Cernuda. In 1945 he took part in the launch of Postism. In 1947 he returned to Spain, where he was the subject of an exhibition by the Museum of Modern Art. From that point on he embarked on an artistic period marked by colour and collage, and the landscapes of La Mancha. He died in Valdepeñas in 1992.

An illustrated study of children's costume in the works of Uccello, Botticelli, Suardi etc

Condition

Good condition. There is tanning and a little bumping to the covers, and the ffep is foxed but otherwise the book is in strong readable condition and nice with Prieto's inscription.
