Tour du Monde en Quatre-Vingts Jours
An early French Hetzel edition of Jules Verne's story of Phileas Fogg
Undated, c1880. Early edition. Hardback, bound in the original red cloth, with superb gilt design and titling to upper board and spine. All edges gilt. 27.5 × 18cm, 217pp, with double spread map and index. French text.
Jules Verne's classic novel of Phileas Fogg and his newly employed French valet Passepartout attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days on a £20,000 wager.
A good copy. The cloth is lightly bumped and rubbed, with some mottling to the rear board and a small nick to the cloth of the rear board. The pages are lightly foxed and tanned throughout, but the inner binding is secure. A few pages have small a marginal tears, not affecting the text.
