From the dustwrapper, "This is Katka. It is the story of a young peasant girl in a little village in Czechoslovakia whose ambition , from her very childhood, is to become a writer. The village schoolmaster recognizes here talent and offers her his assistance and encouragement, but her widowed mother's tragic death leaves Katka in poverty and among unsympathetic relatives who would rather have her work in the fields... Then she meets David Vantal, an American boy on vacation and they fall in love.. new vistas of life are now open to her writing career". Well, you get the gist...
The book is in good condition, some tanning to the page edges but the binding is secure. The dustwrapper is faded and rather tatty to the edges with loss to the edges and rear joint. This is now within a protective sleeve.
