Guide to the Cricket Ground
1867; with an example score-sheet and other action shots...a scarce early cricket title
First edition, hardback, half-leather binding with gilt titling and stump & bat design to spine. 17 × 12cm. vi,, 131pp.
This is an inscription to the title page (in an unknown hand) which reads, "with the compliments of the Stamford Club Ashworth Secty [secretary]".
A rare early book on cricket, which includes the history of the game, definitions of terms, equipment, rules, hints on fielding, bowling and batting, and is illustrated with a fold-out example of a score-sheet and several drawings of players in action... The book has a printed dedication to Dr E M Grace and W G Grace.
The leather is quite heavily rubbed and scuffed to the edges and spine ends, the joints are cracked but still holding. The inner binding is sound. The pages are intermittently foxed throughout but mostly clean. A scarce title.
Our postage is charged at cost and is measured by the weight of the book. The recent USPS price hikes have meant our rates to the US have had to increase.
