A novel from Richard Harding Davis, best known for his work as the first American war correspondent covering the Spanish-American War, the Second Boer War, the Russo-Japanese War and the First World War (where he reported on the Salonika Front and was arrested by the Germans as a spy, but released shortly after). Davis was a good friend of Theodore Roosevelt, and he helped create the legend surrounding the Rough Riders (the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry). A scarce title to find signed.
Condition
Generally good condition, but there is some bumping to the head of the spine and top edge of the front board, and the cloth is frayed to the spine ends. The pages are clean and the binding is secure. As well as Davis' inscription and signature, there is also a previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. The gilt decoration to the front board is starting to fade a little. However, this remains a decent copy of a rare signed book.
